How to
Properly Perform a
"Deuce High Five"
First, one cast member indicates that he/she would
like to slap hands with another cast member. This is often called a "high
five."
The second cast member also raises a hand to approve the offer of a high
five. In a normal high five, the two cast members would simply cause their
palms to meet with force, creating a "slapping" sound or a "snap."
But not so the
"Deuce High Five." One of the two cast members, prior to the
palms meeting with force may call out the one-word phrase, "Deuce,"
thus indicating their interest in performing the afore-mentioned hand
slap maneuver.
After the "Deuce" call-out, the two cast members may then slap
hands, then rear back for another hand slap, to immediately follow the
first, creating a "1-2" rhythmic beat.
Following the
beat created by the two slaps, the two cast members will alter their hands
on the 3rd beat, thus completing the ritual.
The cast member that said the phrase "Deuce" will position their
fingers to indicate the number "2." (see picture)
The cast member that did not say "Deuce" but still had the presence
of mind to acknowledge and perform the double-hand-slap will position
his/her fingers to form an upside-down "2." (also see picture)
Now, varations
of this procedure are inevitable. Here is one such add-on: both parties
may perform a raspberry while performing the final hand gesture by sticking
our their tongue through their persed lips and forcing air out and over
the tongue, making a noise not unlike flatulence. This can both done in
a disgusting manner, resembling an actual case of intense flatulence from
that person's past, or in a style a la Ace Ventura, displaying a general
disrespect for authority.
A
few notes of warning:
Be sure not to slap hands with your thumb tucked in. We don't want any
broken thumbs.
This manuever is not acceptable. A member of the Groundlings or Improv
Olympic may try to perform this maneuver at the end of the "Deuce
High Five." This is sure-fire way to know that they aren't a member
of the Deuce. If someone performs this gesture, the beatings may commence
immediately.
Call your friends to join in.
Happy
Deuc-ing!
